The hurricane’s sheer size means it could batter the U. East Coast with hurricane-force winds for nearly a full day, according to weather forecasters. Despite its unpredictable path, it was forecast to make landfall near Cape Fear, North Carolina, at midday on Friday. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper told a news conference that the “historic” hurricane would unleash rains and floods that would inundate almost the entire state in several feet of water. National Weather Service forecaster Brandon Locklear said in a video briefing North Carolina would see the equivalent of up to eight months of rain in a two- to three-day period.

Back to top 2: But while vacancy rates in Melbourne and Sydney 2 per cent were unchanged in August from July, an improvement in other capitals painted the picture of residential markets in the rest of the country starting to move after years of stagnation or even being in reverse, the latest figures from consultancy SQM Research show. The country’s tightest residential market is Hobart, where the residential vacancy rate slipped to just 0.
Darwin recorded the sharpest decline for the month with vacancy rates falling to 2. The NT capital has now recorded seven straight months of falling vacancy rate, suggesting the downturn in its rental market is over. But with a vacancy rate of between 2 per cent and 3 per cent indicating a market in equilibrium, the outlook for Melbourne backs up suggestions – such as that made by consultancy BIS Oxford Economics last week – that the city, like Sydney, will suffer from a shortage of dwellings, rather than a surplus.
And given the pronounced year-on-year declines in building approvals, we believe rents will likely rise at a faster pace in than what has been recorded in , thus far. We now have mounting concerns for significant rental shortages in for Sydney and Melbourne.

I usually do not. It will go where ever it will go. But something about the name “Isabel” made me wonder if this one was destined for the history books. Early on, it was clear that Isabel would be a hurricane. The first NHC cyclone discussion for Isabel showed that it would be a hurricane soon.

Geologists taking rock samples on James Ross Island for cosmogenic nuclide dating Cosmic rays are high energy particles that flow into our solar system from outer space. They are essential for the production of 14C in our atmosphere, which is used in radiocarbon dating , and in the production of cosmogenic nuclides in rocks at the Earth surface, which we use in cosmogenic nuclide dating [ ]. So, these rays are essential for many applications in Quaternary Science, but where do they come from?

Head Gasket Towards the end of Bee didn’t seem to be pulling so well, and sounded a bit rough backing into the garage. Checking the carbs the rear was OK on the lifting pin but the front didn’t give the usual response. Checking the plugs the front pair looked a bit weak, so richened going for max idle when turning the nut, but the lifting pin still didn’t do much. I’d deliberately left the Bosch 4-point plugs in well over 10k just to see what happened, no mechanical wear, but decided the experiment had gone on long enough so fitted a new set of NGKs.
Running noticeably better, some response from the front lifting-pin, but still not as good as the rear. Did a compression test, and No. Did a compressed air test, and No. So the head will have to come off – again, go away for testing, and if OK I’ll have it converted to unleaded to take the old valves and seats out of the equation.
Early versions of the Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield bolt-action rifles that were sold commercially were required to carry acknowledgement of the patent holders for the designs used. The inventor of the bolt-action was the Scottish-born and renowned James Paris Lee, who lived for all but the first four or five years of his life initailly in Ontario, and latterly in Toronto, Canada, with his magazine-fed bolt-action design being first put into significant production in conjunction with the Remington Arms Company.

Background We think of a battery today as a source of portable power, but it is no exaggeration to say that the battery is one of the most important inventions in the history of mankind.
Volta’s pile was at first a technical curiosity but this new electrochemical phenomenon very quickly opened the door to new branches of both physics and chemistry and a myriad of discoveries, inventions and applications. The electronics, computers and communications industries, power engineering and much of the chemical industry of today were founded on discoveries made possible by the battery.
Pioneers It is often overlooked that throughout the nineteenth century, most of the electrical experimenters, inventors and engineers who made these advances possible had to make their own batteries before they could start their investigations.

How the Waffle House is used to determine a hurricane’s fury South Carolina’s most popular tourist destination is like a ghost town. North Myrtle Beach was nearly empty Thursday as the first bands of heavy rain from Hurricane Florence approached. A few locals briefly walked into the sand but were quickly sandblasted back by stiff winds. One man tried to skimboard, but gave up after a few minutes as winds from the land cut down the waves. He called the ocean “Lake Myrtle” as he walked back to his car.
There was several hundred feet meters of sand between the dunes and ocean as a low tide approached around 5 p. The sky occasionally spit a drop or two of rain, but the steady rain bands remained to the north. A police officer sat nearby to talk to anyone who ventured too close to the surf. The area called the Grand Strand attracts 18 million visitors a year.
On Thursday, every restaurant, beachwear shop and mini golf course was closed.
